What pain relief do you offer?

Natural methods, for example:

• Relaxation techniques and music

Please feel free to bring in your own music although there is a good selection we offer.

• Freedom to walk about

• Rocking chairs

• Heat pads and bean bags

• TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation)
A gentle current is passed through 4 flat pads stuck to your back, creating a tingling feeling. Helpful at the beginning of labour especially with backache. It has no harmful effect on your baby.

• Entonox (gas and air)
You breathe this through a mouthpiece or mask. It is simple and easy to use. It does not take the pain away completely but helps and is not harmful to your baby.

• Water bath

• Birthing pool

• Pethidine injections
A pain reliving injection given to make you feel more relaxed and comfortable. It can make you feel sick but this can be helped by giving you another injection. It does not take the pain away completely.
